Premium Dual Density Filter Pad Tips and FAQ

Premium Dual Density Filter Pad Tips and FAQ

Our Premium TRUE dual density filter pads are the professions choice, constructed of durable polyester fibers bonded by our special resin to give it exceptional strength. The top layer's open fiber construction traps larger particles while the bottom layer's dense fiber network traps fine particles - working together to produce crystal clear water in your fish tank.

The lower section of our pads is made by taking layers of resilient fibers through a process called needling to tighten and entangle the fibers into a dense network producing a thin firm layer, perfect for removing fine debris.

The fibers in our dual density filter pads effectively trap uneaten foods, waste excreted by livestock, decaying plants, detritus, dust, and other floating particulates from aquarium water. Changing this filter pad often will increase water quality by removing collected solids BEFORE they continue to break down and add additional unwanted algae feeding nutrients to your aquarium water.

The Premium filter pads are typically used as a pre-filter for wet/dry filters, sumps, and canister filters to clean water in freshwater, saltwater, reef aquariums and other types of fish tanks. They also provide mechanical filtration in aquaponics systems, turtle tanks, terrariums, and much more.

TIPS

Make A Template Since pads need to be replaced on a regular basis, a cardboard template can be made of the filter pad you are replacing. Keep and use this template whenever you need to cut out new filter pads.

Safe From The Bag Premium Dual Density Filter Pads can be placed directly in your aquarium filter from our bag or, if you prefer, rinse the pad first in clean fresh water.

FAQ

Q. Which side of your Premium Filter Pad should the water go through first?

A. The water should flow through the open or looser fiber side of our premium pad first. This will allow the larger debris to be trapped before entering the tight weaved lower section of the pad. This gradual loading of debris will keep you filter pad lasting much longer.

Q. Can I clean and reuse the Premium Bonded Filter Pad?

A. Our durable Premium Filter Pads can be rinsed and reused. The method to cleaning the pad is determined by how it is used. A typical filter pad is used as mechanical pre-filter material, which means its only purpose is to capture floating debris from the water. In this case, clean the pad by rinsing it in freshwater and squeeze the water out several times. Even after a thorough rinse the pad will not turn back to its original white color however it is ready to trap more debris. Some hobbyists use filter pads as part of their biological filter. They use the pad surface area to grow beneficial bacteria which breaks down fish waste, uneaten food, etc. To keep the good bacteria alive the pad must be rinsed in fresh or saltwater where the chlorine or chloramines have been treated. Another method is to clean the pad in a bucket of old tank water. Either way, just rinse and squeeze the pad a few times to remove trapped debris.

Q. When my Premium filter pad arrived some sections are compressed. How can I get the pad to return to its normal thickness?

A. The fibers that make up the pad will typically return back to their manufactured height once removed from their package. Although this can sometimes be a slow process taking several hours and occasionally even a day or two. Even with compressed areas the filter pad can be placed into your filter and will effectively trap debris. If you prefer a hair dryer can be used to heat the fibers allowing them to spring back. Heat from a hair dryer should not affect the lower tightly entangled layer of the pad.

Q. Do your Premium pads have any dyes added?

A. No dyes are added to our Premium Filter pads. They are made of aquatic pet safe polyester with a non-toxic resin binder.
